The Learning Success Program
The Learning Success Program The Apostle Paul writes, Paul’s purpose in this letter is “to encourage in heart and unite in love,” so that the Laodiceans might have the riches of complete understanding. Crean Crean Lutheran South High School seeks to fulfill the same purpose through its mission, to Proclaim Jesus Christ through Excellence in Education. An important component at LSHS is the Learning Success Program (LSP) which serves students who learning differently. Specifically, the LSP supports students with, attention deficit disorder, other special education needs, as well as those who have demonstrated the need for educational support, modification and accommodation so that their understanding is more complete. Students who learn differently are supported by the entire Crean Lutheran South community. Beyond teaching faculty who receive specific education and training in teaching to all kinds of minds, Crean Lutheran South will also employ a credentialed specialist to support students who learn differently. The overarching goal is to assist students to grow closer in their relationship with Jesus Christ, while helping them learn how to excel academically. Families who desire additional support are asked to seek an audience with the Principal, or his designee, to obtain permission for enrollment in The Learning Success Program. This request must be made in writing and in a timely manner to allow appropriate evaluation and consideration prior to enrollment. Recommendation for enrollment in the program is based on the following:
A critical part of this process is the development of a formal or informal Educational Plan. This Education Plan is based on previous testing by an educational or school psychologist. As part of an Education Plan, both accommodations and modifications of students’ individual needs are provided. These accommodations and modifications vary depending upon individual student needs and include but are not limited to:
The Learning Success Program also assists students with organizational skills, daily problem solving, academic support, and post-secondary planning. Students’ schedules are designed to assist each student to maximize their potential and to enhance the educational environment within the confines of the master schedule. All students will fulfill Crean Lutheran South’s graduation requirements. If a specific documented disability prohibits a student from fulfilling of a requirement, a written petition must be filed by a student’s parent along with supporting professional documentation to the Principal and Executive Director as to why it is not possible to fulfill the said graduation requirement. Once the petition and supporting documentation are received and processed, a meeting to discuss the petition with the student and the parent(s) will be arranged. If sound rational is supported by professional documentation, then an alternate requirement for graduation will be determined in lieu of the petitioned requirement. Reducing total graduation requirement units is not a suitable remedy to a requirement that cannot be met. Non-discrimination Policy Crean Crean Lutheran South High School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to the students of the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, financial aid, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-related programs. |
