I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
Crean Lutheran High School has established a first-rate athletic department that is dedicated to teaching Christian character development through the pursuit of competitive excellence - within the framework of a collegiate model.
CLHS collegiate-model athletic department is formed around the concept of providing centralized support for student-athletes. Academic support services, performance training, and collegiate recruitment services are just some of the student services that will allow CLHS student-athletes to realize their potential academically and athletically.
The Crean Lutheran Athletic Mission Statement is based off 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we (CLHS) do it to get a crown that will last forever.
In this verse, the apostle Paul evangelizes before the Corinthians to adopt a purposeful, goal-oriented spiritual life. He focuses on this ideal as a calculated road map to success - but for a different goal and for a different prize. Paul’s exhortation hits at the core of the philosophy and foundation of the Crean Lutheran High School Athletic Department. CLHS Athletics offers a competitive and comprehensive Christ-centered athletic department that seeks to inculcate in each student-athlete the inherent value of embracing the journey over the destination, the process over perfection. In lockstep with the school’s overall mission statement of “Proclaiming Jesus Christ Through Excellence in Education,” CLHS embodies Christ through:
C-ommitment H-onor R-esponsibility I-ntelligence S-acrifice T-eamwork
The CLHS Athletic Department is committed to providing the necessary environment and resources that allow teams and student-athletes to achieve success on a conference, regional, or national level. In that pursuit of excellence, however, the department expects each representative of the school’s athletic interests (e.g. coaches, student-athletes, and families) to display Christian character, sportsmanship and personal integrity at all times and in all situations. CLHS will also strictly adhere to CIF and institutional bylaws and rules so that this generation of student-athletes will set an appropriate tone for those to follow.
